While our war-wounds were still healing during the Reconstruction Era, Democrats rose as the dominant political force in not only Travis County but everywhere else in Texas and throughout the South. Records from this period are difficult to come by and the county party’s early history is obscure. Following the War Between the States, the Republican Party of Travis County enjoyed an influential role in the process of re-aligning Texas with the North. The newly formed Republican Party favored the abolition of slavery, federalism, and other values Republicans continue to hold even today. The Travis GOP, being the official presence of the Grand Old Party (GOP) for the capital city of Texas, has origins just before the Civil War.

Though the Travis County Republican Party may represent the red seed in “the blueberry in the tomato soup” currently, we’ve made our mark in the history of Austin and throughout Texas. We welcome you to join us, to get involved, and help us make a lasting impact for the future of our great community. We have strong representation in our executive committee, vibrant Republican clubs and auxiliaries, and loyal public service from among our elected officials with whom we share a close working relationship. We are solidly committed to growing the party. In doing so, the Travis County Republican Party (TCRP, or Travis GOP for short) stands for and actively promotes the conservative Principles of the Republican party - representing the best of time-honored Texas values here in the capital city of the Lone Star State. And if they fall within that category, they’re not an imminent national security threat that would rise to the level of you have to raid Donald Trump’s home and spend nine hours there. We are driven by one common objective: to elect more Republicans in Travis County and the greater Austin metro area. ‘’Many of them you can find on your own phone as we stand here. ‘’I can tell you that there are a number of things that are classified that fall under the umbrella of nuclear weapons, but that are not necessarily things that are truly classified,’’ Turner said. But in response to a reporter’s question, he offered some speculation. He stressed that he did not know what documents Trump might have had. Turner spoke at a news conference with other Republicans.

Representative Michael Turner of Ohio, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, suggested that it was possible that Trump had in his possession documents related to nuclear weapons that were technically classified but not ‘’truly classified.’’ Garland said Thursday he could not say more because of the pending investigation. ‘’And why would you only speak for a few moments?’’ ‘’He is just inflaming the public,’’ McCarthy said. He also said Garland should have spoken at greater length when he addressed the public on Thursday. McCarthy suggested the Justice Department should have continued to seek cooperation from Trump rather than conduct a search. I think the attorney general has a lot of explaining to do.’’ ‘’He has a real problem here,’’ McCarthy said. McCarthy also took aim at Garland, who said Thursday that he had personally authorized the search of Trump’s residence. McCarthy said he agreed with Trump that the search warrant and related documents should be released publicly, which they were Friday afternoon. Republicans lashed out at Garland even after the Justice Department filed a motion requesting the search warrant for Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property be unsealed.
